Twins-MUSIC with Waveform Digitization and a Pileup Correction Algorithm for High-Rate Operation at HIAF-HIRIBL

摘要: A novel ionization chamber, Twins-MUSIC, has been developed for accurate energy-loss measurement and atomic-number identification at incident beam rates of ≥10^6 Hz. It consists of paired transverse-field MUSIC detectors with opposite field polarities, enabling independent reconstruction of multihit events. To address pulse pileup, the detector incorporates a readout scheme integrating waveform digitization with a dedicated pileup correction algorithm. Simulations under realistic conditions were performed to evaluate the system's high-rate performance and to compare single-MUSIC and Twins-MUSIC detector configurations. The results show that the proposed electronics and processing algorithms effectively resolve pulse pileup and significantly enhance detection efficiency. Furthermore, the opposite-polarity field configuration provides an additional performance gain by resolving overlapping events. Beam-test results with primary ^{12}C and ^{40}Ar beams validated the feasibility of the proposed scheme.
