Overcoming Pulse Pileup in MUSIC Detectors: A Conceptual Study of Twins-MUSIC for High-Rate Operation at HIAF-HIRIBL

摘要: A novel ionization chamber, Twins-MUSIC, consisting of paired transverse-field MUSICs with opposite field polarities, has been developed. To achieve accurate energy-loss measurement and atomic-number (Z) identification at incident beam rates of ≥10^6 Hz, a readout scheme integrating waveform digitization and a dedicated pileup correction algorithm has been implemented. Simulations under realistic conditions were performed to conceptually compare this advanced readout scheme with the conventional setup comprising a preamplifier, amplifier, and analog-to-digital converter, as well as to evaluate the performance differences between single MUSIC and Twins-MUSIC detector configurations. The results show that the proposed electronics and processing algorithms effectively resolve pulse pileup and significantly enhance detection efficiency relative to conventional readout system. The opposite-polarity field configuration enables independent reconstruction of multihit events, further improving overall performance under high-rate beam conditions.
